Sik Sik Yuen 100th Anniversary Ceremony

Countdown Art Installation

Established in 1921, Sik Sik Yuen, also known as the Wong Tai Sin Temple, is a religious charitable organization worshipping Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism.

2021 marks a century that Sik Sik Yuen has been established, and to celebrate this landmark event, Sik Sik Yuen held a Countdown Opening Ceremony, to count down one hundred days to the opening ceremony and kicked off a series of celebrations.

What We Did

Through our research on Sik Sik Yuen history and story, we have learned that Sik Sik Yuen has a guiding principal of “to Act Benevolently and to Teach Benevolence” (普濟勸善).

We took the guiding principal essence to create “普善百年” as the key message. “普善” and “百年”，the two words put together have a meaning of acting benevolently for a hundred years, which can deliver the guiding principle and 100th anniversary message directly.

We respect its traditional Chinese-style appearance – grand red pillars, golden roof, delicate carving, and colorful lanterns, as well as the strong Taoist culture. Our job was to express these in every detail of the device. Not only the creative palette matches with the Yuen, each of the design element also has its meaning.

Circular base structure represents Wheel of Life, lucky clouds represent good luck, and red chrysanthemum represents luck and long life. One of the Taoist elements, The Big Dipper (北斗七星), is cleverly hidden within the device, adding a special touch to the visitor experience.
